What I’m…

DOING

Perching high up in a tree in the woods, dry leaves swirling around me like confetti. The branches form an uncomfortable V around my butt, but this particular perch gives an incredible panoramic view of the forest.

I love writing & watching wildlife from up here – for as long as my butt can take it!

No wildlife-watching today, however. Have the goobies with me. 🙂

Mally‘s  jumping around & up in the air, trying to catch swirling leaves. But MegaDeath is yowling back at the wind, as if to say, “Yes, Mother Nature, I hear you. Now hear THIS!”

Nope, no wildlife-watching with the goobies around! 🙄

Have 2 other foster-goobies this week: Apache & Soldier. They’re twins (well, 2 of sextups, actually), the only survivors of a murderous ex-owner who killed their siblings, one by one.

What I’m…

WEARING

Bat piss & guano.

bat-in-tree-branches

It’s in my hair, on my shoulders, splattered across the back of my neck, and God knows where else.

.

WHY

We’re rescuing a colony of bats that got trapped in someone’s attic, and pooping is an animal’s fight or flight response to being captured.

But guess what?

It’s part of our fight or flight response, as well.

It’s why sometimes people get so scared they pee on themselves. Like my coworker just did because he’s never seen so many bats in person. I won’t talk about how hilarious it was to see his reaction when they all started flying around, grazing his head.

He’s in the van now, cowering.

Men. 🙄

Fill ‘Er Up!

Think gas prices in the U.S. turn a smile upside down?

gas-prices-sign

Ha!

That smile would stay on the upswing if you knew the gas prices in some other countries.

Like Turkey, for example. Or Eritrea.

How does $10 per gallon sound?

What’s it like to fill-up in other countries?

Let’s have a look…

What I’m…

DOING

Eating.

The most luscious turkey/mozzarella/pesto/grilled tomato & zucchini panini ever created.

WONDERING

Why, when you’re stuffing face with gooey food & licking instead of wiping your fingers, a cute guy always pops up out of nowhere?

Is this, like a Murphy’s Law-type thing??

Flipsyde: Youth Rules

older-woman-in-bikiniShe’s old.

Well, old-er.

But you want to be open-minded. Tolerant. Inclusive.

You don’t want to be the shallow asshole who notices the sagging parts of older women.

You’re not that guy.

You are open to dating women in their 40’s. Even though you could date girls in their 20’s, and revel in their non-sagging attractions. Like lush, young breasts…firm, young bottoms…tight, young –

Okay, stop.

Not going there.

Not en route to pick up your 40-something blind date.

Diary of an American Girl’s Journeys to the Forbidden Land (Excerpt 20)

rusty-chain-linkBut what does all this Haiti stuff have to do with Cuba?” I asked.

Victor connected the historical link.

He explained that Haiti had been the major island for sugar production – which made it the richest colony on the planet.

In fact, Haiti produced more than half of France’s Gross National Product, making gigundo fortunes for France, who dubbed Haiti their “Jewel of the Antilles.” Which, of course, was accomplished on the backs of brown slaves whose emotional, familial, and cultural devastation, and back-breaking labor in creating the wealth of White supremacist nations would be reduced to a mere footnote by Western historians.

This really pisses me off.

I mean, weren’t colonists, like, Christian-love-God-and-your-fellow-man type deals? Were brown people not fellow men? Then, okay, what were they exactly?

Animals? Aliens? Aberrations?

Talk about do as we say, not as we do… 😐

Manners & Customs in the Bible” by Victor H. Matthews

.

LEARNING

1. That guys back then were required to wear beards or risk being branded unholy. Their beards had to be very long, and squared off at the bottom.

moses

I saw this in parts of Afghanistan. There was a booming business in selling fake beards for guys unable to grow their own long enough, or thick enough.

2. Harlots were required to go unveiled with their hair exposed in public, or risk torture and death by law. Which must mean that all other women wore veils with their hair covered in public

Diary of an American Girl’s Journeys to the Forbidden Land (Excerpt 16)

man-and-woman-arm-wrestlingThe man politely introduced himself to our group. His name was Victor, and he was an historian.

With his white temples and beard, he certainly looked the part.

Eleanor was just as gray. But not as pleasant.

Are you asking me if I know the history of my own country?” she asked indignantly.

Exactly!” Victor punctuated this pronouncement with a finger in the air. He was so comical and personable, you couldn’t help but like him.

Unless you were Eleanor.

Well, that’s insulting,” she informed him. “How would you feel if I asked if you know the history of your own country?

I would feel that you are not one to make ignorant assumptions based on citizenship,” he answered.

Eleanor looked as if she might vomit on him. Intentionally. Continue reading
