Stormy Night

stormy-sky

The raging winds of our breath

Howling through the trees, risking detection.

The pouring rains of our flesh

Drenching our bed of leaves with hot affection.

.

Flashes of lightening in our eyes…

Our heaven-bound bodies thunder.

A furry witness to our storm,

Its head tilted in wonder.

 .

CHORUS

Stormy night, stormy night

Wet, wild, indecent.

Stormy night…

Disturbingly recent.

.

How can I forget,

Pretend I regret

That stormy night?

stormy-skies

It was a stormy night

Alive with tender brutality

That tore away our clothing,

Attacking unexpectedly.

.

Nowhere to hide, no time, don’t care…

Nature’s callings lack finesse.

A spell is cast, caught unaware

This turbulence is limitless.

 .

CHORUS

Stormy night, stormy night

Wet, wild, indecent.

Stormy night…

Disturbingly recent.

.

How can I forget,

Pretend I regret

That stormy night?

.

  1. Wonderful poem. But I enjoyed it even more as I re-read it while listening to Felix Mendelssohn’s “Fingal’s Cave Overture” (a/k/a “The Hebrides”). That always evokes something special about experiencing stormy weather.
