Holiday Shoppers Return Online Purchases in Record Numbers

christmas_giftsIn spite of global financial crisis, the 2011 Christmas season surprised retailers with gains of more than 15% from online shoppers. But an avalanche of returns is raining on the parade.

Why?

Apparently, it’s “a question of touch.”

According to Time Ideas, “We can love the look, but in an online environment, we cannot feel the quality…physically interacting with an object makes you more committed to your purchase.”

Martin Lindstrom, author of “Brandwashed,” conducts an experiment about the differences between online and offline shopping.
